Raphael Saadiq - “They Don’t Know You” ft. Common & Ledisi

beatsrhimesandlife:

Back in 2004, Raphael Saadiq opened his studio doors to Steve Spacek to produce an album for one of his sub labels. The album was supposed to be called Pookie Blue Room and it featured 10 songs produced by both Steve Spacek and Morgan Zarate with Raphael singing on all of them. It also featured guest appearances by Common, Q-Tip, Ledisi, and Sir Bentley. Anyhow the album was never completed and therefore never released, but this new track, “They Don’t Know You,” with Common and Ledisi has found its way online. Yeah, this definitely deserves a proper release.

chubstr:

I was flipping through channels tonight trying to find something to watch when I landed on a show playing this song in the background, and it reminded me how great it is. I’m a sucker for anything the mighty Mos Def is part of, but working with The Roots? There’s no way this could be anything but perfect. Anyway, take a listen to our In Your Ear pick for this Thursday night.

Comes To The Light - Jill Scott

“how did I let it get this far?
how did I make this wrong turn?
Comes to the light, comes to the light..everything.”

The choice of excerpted words is interesting.
